The coffee takes its name from a town called San Marcos Ocotepeque in the Sierra del Merendon Mountain range which runs along the border of Honduras and Guatemala. This region has diverse biomes including cloud forests and is home to Cusuco National Park.
Coffee from the San Marcos region is grown at about 1400 - 1600 meters which explains it's density and complexity.
